Jennie Garth: I Tried to Save My Marriage

The actress reveals that Peter Facinelli asked her for a divorce in November, but she "didn't want it to happen"

Even after Peter Facinelli asked for a divorce, Jennie Garth was determined to keep their ten-year marriage in tact. The former 90210 actress and Twilight actor announced their separation earlier this month, but Garth admits in a new interview that she'd been wrestling with the divorce question since last fall.

"I was very resistant," Garth, 39, tells People. "I didn't want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it."

Sadly, things started going downhill for the photogenic couple when Facinelli got his biggest career break: playing Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the Twilight films. That led to a role on Showtime's Nurse Jackie, and between the two gigs, Facinelli, 38, barely had any time for his wife and three daughters.

"He would do everything he could to fly back every weekend. (But) it took a real toll on our marriage," Garth admits.

When Access Hollywood asked Jennie last week if she knew the Twilight films would affect her relationship with Peter, she implied that the film franchise did play a role in their split.

"I had no idea," she quickly replied.

The couple has also denied rumors that they broke up because Facinelli was unfaithful.

"There are rumors out there which are completely untrue and hurtful to our family. We just want to make it very clear -- there are no third parties involved," they said in a joint statement.

Now that she's a single mom, Garth is starting over by moving Luca, 14, Lola, 9, and Fiona, 5, from Los Angeles to the rural Santa Ynez Valley -- and documenting the whole thing on her new CMT reality show, Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country.

"I've gone through my darkest parts and I'm coming out of it," she tells People. "I'm okay. I don't know what the future holds, but then I've never been a planner. And maybe that's a good thing."

Garth and Facinelli are still committed to co-parenting, and were spotted together on a shopping trip with their two younger daughters on Tuesday.
